The darling of Michigan apples - Honey Crisp!

The Honey Crisp apples are ready for picking at Crane Orchards, and a nice crowd is expected for the next two weekends for this perrenial favorite.  For the unfamiliar, each cultivated apple variety has a different taste, firmness, texture and color.  Empire apples, for instance, have a heavy, waxy bloom with a white juicy flesh - excellent as a dessert apple or for making cider.  Honey Crisp, according to the folks at Crane Orchards, is an 'exciting apple variety that has apple lovers around the world talking. Many are saying that it is the best fresh-eating apple variety ever. Color is red mottled over a yellow background. Has excellent eating and keeping qualities.'  Make plans to visit during the next two weeks of September, and find out for yourself!
