All across the United States, innkeepers are inviting veterans to stay for free in honor of Veteran's Day. Veterans from all branches of the armed forces will stay Wednesday night, November 10th and wake up to a special breakfast on Veteran's Day, November 11th.
With the support of over 400 innkeepers across the US and some advertising provided by TripAdvisor.com, the response has been overwhelming. Although the Victoria Resort Bed & Breakfast set aside half of the rooms specifically for this special night, all of the rooms have already been booked!
To accommodate some of the extra demand for the BnBs for Vets program, the Victoria Resort is offering a free night the following week with the purchase of a second night.
Nearly all of the staff at the Victoria has a relative who has served in the Navy, Air Force, Marines or Army. Most recently, one of the innkeepers at the Victoria Resort lost her nephew last year. Corporal Matthew R. Lembke was on his third tour with the Marines when an improvised explosive device went off while he was on patrol. After losing both legs and undergoing two weeks of extensive surgeries, the twenty-two year old passed away with his parents at his side.
Jan Leksich, the owner, simply said "If a getaway to our bed & breakfast, our town and our shoreline helps, then I am glad to do it. Maybe it will give a military spouse a little hope, maybe it will show a veteran they are not forgotten, maybe it will be a spark for others to show their appreciation as well."
