Cross Country Skiing in Southwest Michigan

The recent winter weather has many people asking about skiing in the South Haven area.  Sarett Nature Center is the place to explore on skis.  The non-profit organization offers several miles of trails and has skis for rent at only ten dollars per person.  If you have your own equipment, a small user fee gives you access to the trail system.  Favorite trails take skiers through a wide stand of pine trees and along the upland trail, which leads to the Tree Top Tower.

Inside where it's warm, one section of the nature center has several recued animals, including owls, snakes and turtles.  Several portions of the center have expansive windows overlooking the bluff and a variety of bird feeders.

Special events are planned for the skiing season.  January 15th, the ski trails will be lit by torches and after an invigorating evening skiers are invited back to the nature center for coffee, tea and hot soup.  January 16th, naturalists will lead skiers through the lesser-known and under-utilized Ross Property for an afternoon adventure.  Reserve your skiing spot in advance by calling 269-927-4832.  For lodging accommodations, contact the Victoria Resort.  Romantic getaway rooms for two are available, or plan a group getaway in one of the larger guest cottages.  Call 1-800-473-7376 or reserve online through http://www.victoriaresort.com/.
