Ice Breaker Festival in South Haven - February 4, 5, 6

South Haven's Ice Breaker Festival is the first weekend of February, and the Victoria Resort B&B is proud to be a sponsor of this annual event.

The highlight of the festival is the ice carving, which begins at 9 am on Saturday morning on the streets of downtown South Haven.  Three classifications of ice carvers - student, amateur and professional - will transform their blocks of ice into a work of art.  Last year's winning designs included a replica of the Dyckman Bridge, a seahorse and a sword.

Throughout the day, visitors are invited to sample chili from the fourteen professional contenders throughout downtown.  Last year's winner, the local Elks Club, faces fierce competition from Joe's Bar and Grill and Phoenix Street Cafe.  Chili samples are free, but don't forget to pick up a scoring card to help determine the 2011 champion.

Inside the warmth of Foundry Hall, the amateur chili cook-off has it's own legendary local rivalries.    Samples for the amateur division are a quarter each, which are donated to the local charity We Care INC's heating assistance fund.

Throughout the day, enjoy a complimentary ride from Bitter-Sweet Belgiums.  Ice skating demonstrations will take place at 1:30 and 3:30 pm, and Saturday morning from 11 to 12 noon you can try skating for free.

New this year is the introduction of curling, a lesser-known winter sport.  On Ice Breaker weekend, you can try curling for free on Friday at 2 pm and Sunday at 10am.

Acccommodations are available at the Victoria Resort whether you're seeking a romantic room for two or a large house to accommodate a small group of friends.  Call the innkeeper at 269-637-6414 for updated availability or visit the webpage http://www.victoriaresort.com/.
