South Haven's Beach Named a Best Kept Secret

The June 2011 issue of Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel names one of South Haven's beaches as a great "secret" beach.  Lesser known than the larger North Beach and South Beach, Packard Park Beach features easy access to the shoreline, a public restroom building and picnic area underneath a few trees.  If you have ever driven on North Shore Drive in South Haven, it's likely you drove right by this South Haven city park.  It is located just north of Dyckman Avenue, and within sight of North Side Memories (the perfect place to pick up snacks and sandwiches for that picnic).

From Packard Park, one more block north is Oak Street Beach, which has a great reputation as a neighborhood beach.  All of the residents on Oak Street, Park Avenue and Brockway Avenue walk to Oak Street Beach.  On some of the hottest days of summer, the innkeepers at the Victoria Resort will see a virtual a parade of people headed for the shoreline with inflatable toys, beach umbrellas and coolers.

While we're glad Frommer's took the time to mention South Haven's beautiful shoreline, we're also secretly happy that they didn't mention a few of our favorite lesser-travelled beaches.   If you are headed to the Victoria this year, ask Amanda for a few tips!
