South Haven's Harborside Bistro Gets New Owners

The "million dollar location" in downtown South Haven has finally been sold.  After several years of vacancy, the former Harborside Bistro restaurant has found new owners.
As far as real estate goes, this is a prime commercial spot for South Haven.  A single story, corner lot at the intersection of Phoenix and Kalamazoo street, it seems like a no-brainer of a location.  Positioned at the top of the hill, patrons can look westward towards the river harbor and Lake Michigan.  According sources, this hotspot sold for
only $340,000.  The large corner building offers over six thousand square feet, and the seating capacity is around a hundred and fifty people.  The local newspaper reported the request for the liquor license to the new owner - a big and necessary step in the process of purchasing a restaurant.

Of course there is a lot of work to be done, as an empty building does not improve with time.  The building has been purchased by the same folks who own Joe's Bar and Grill.  A local chef and his wife will be leasing the building and operating the restaurant.  No word yet on the concept or menu, but we're excited to see some activity downtown!

Rumors aside, we are immensely pleased that someone is taking on the challenge.  Obviously the goal will be to open for summer of 2013, but we hope to get a sneak peek in the spring!

What would you like to see in downtown South Haven?  Tapas?  Japanese steak house?  Post your suggestions, and if your concept is put in place at the new restaurant, we'll buy you a bottle of champagne on your next visit to the Victoria Resort!
