South Haven's Harborfest has taken place over Father's Day weekend for over twenty years. Traditionally this free festival has been the first in the summer season, offering visitors and residents alike free outdoor concerts, kids activities, dragon boat races and more.
Last fall, the Waterfront Film Festival decided to leave their Saugatuck venue and started weighing other waterfront towns along Lake Michigan. Grand Haven, Holland and Saint Joseph were all being considered, but ultimately the decision was made to make South Haven the home of the 2013 Waterfront Film Festival.
The one complicaton? The Waterfront Film Festival is held Father's Day weekend. South Haven's residents and town leaders knew that hosting the film festival would be an amazing opportunity to showcase the town, so Harborfest was moved to the following weekend.
Make plans to attend the Waterfront Film Festival June 13th - 16th. The film festival committee will announce the full lineup
of shorts, documentaries and feature films in late May. Around that same time, film tickets and special passes will be available for purchase. Special events will be planned for the weekend, with opportunities to meet the producers, actors and other film industry members. Over the years the Waterfront Film Festival has welcomed Daryl Hannah, Ron English, Beverly McClellan (from "The Voice"), Jim Hanks, Eric Palladino and Wendie Malick. Some films will be hosted indoors at venues like Foundry Hall and the Michigan Theatre - and others will be shown outside along the waterfront.
There is hardly a better spot to be during the summer than South Haven. Make plans to join us for the fun!
