The Michigan Theater recently completed a little lobby renovation this spring, just in time for the Waterfront Film Festival this June.
The space was expanded by utilizing the former projection room. The projection room serviced both first floor theaters, with space for both projectors and the reels of film. The development of digital equipment has significantly reduced the amount of space needed. In addition, new carpeting has been laid in the lobby and along the stairway to the upstairs theater.
Co-owner Carol Moore has been a big supporter of the Waterfront Film Festival coming to South Haven, because "it's a great opportunity to bring people to town". This is the 15th year for the film festival, but the first time it has been hosted in South Haven. In addition to the Michigan Theater, films will be shown at Foundry Hall and Listiak Auditorium plus a handful of outdoor screenings will be hosted throughout the town.
The Waterfront Film Festival will showcase 70 independently produced films, including comedies, drama, documentaries and short films. The film committee has already begun the selection process this spring, with the final decisions due towards the end of May.
