Cross country skiing, fires and food? Fabulous!

Cross country skis, evening skies, torches, fires and a hot bowl of soup?  This is my kind of winter sport!  Sarett Nature Center is hosting a "Gourmet Glide" on Saturday, January 10th that will change your perception of winter sports!

Beginning at 6 pm, the ski trails will be lit by torchlight, and occasional warming stations include a blazing fire and appetizers.  After traversing the trails, head back to the nature center's gathering hall for a cozy fire, homemade soups, coffee and tea.

Bring your own skis or snowshoes, or rent some from Sarett.  Not enough snow?  Bring your hiking boots and take a wintry walk over the same trails, keeping your ears open for owls and other wildlife.

Bring a dish to pass, your own table service and favorite beverage.  Register with the folks at Sarett so they can prepare for the right number of adventurous people by calling 269-927-4832.  The cost is just $8 per person.  Ski and snowshoe rentals are $5 to $8 per person.

Overnight accommodations are available at the Victoria Resort Bed & Breakfast, and this weekend the second night is half off.  Given the winter temperatures forecast, consider a room or cottage with a fireplace - you'll appreciate it!  Sarett Nature Center is located off I-196 at exit 1, and the Victoria Resort is about a mile from exit 22.
